World Class Advert Wins Prestigious Travel Award

With new commercials now on air, last year's TV campaign for North East England  is hearalded as world's best.

Just days before the new North East England TV commercials received their television premiere, the 2007 campaign was honoured at the World Travel Awards, when it was named "World's Leading Destination Television Commercial".

The prestigious travel industry event was established in 1993 and success in these awards is recognised as the one of the highest honours a travel product or organisation can achieve. In securing this latest accolade, North East England completed a hat-trick of achievement, taking home an award from the WTA for the last three years in a row.

Over the course of last year the advert was viewed by an estimated 55% of the UK adult population. It beat stiff competition from nine other countries including the Australian Tourist Commission, Tourism Ireland and the New Zealand Tourist Board.

Stacy Hall, Director of Communications and Tourism at One NorthEast said: "This is a fantastic achievement and a real credit to everyone in North East England who has contributed to the region's visitor economy. The biggest satisfaction of winning accolades, whether it is the World Travel Awards or being named in Lonely Planet's Bluelist, is the increased global exposure it gives the region as a great destination for visitors."
